I’m surprised when I’m reminded that I’ve been at Wyeth for almost five years because in many ways I still feel “new”. I suppose that’s because it is never boring. There’s always something new to discover around the corner.I joined Wyeth as the Area Sales Manager for Western Australia and recently have been appointed to also manage a team in New Zealand. In a nutshell, it means that I manage the sales representatives in those regions responsible for the anti-depressant, Efexor and the vaccine, Prevenar. It’s the ideal job for me because I enjoy working with people, communicating and helping others to achieve their goals. So in that sense, I get to enjoy something that I feel I can do well, every day.
As Area Sales Manager, it’s also important to me to believe in the products and at Wyeth that isn’t a problem. I’m working for a company that makes high quality products that change people’s lives.
My path to this role has been fairly colourful. In my twenties I was a musician, playing clarinet with bands and orchestras and saxophone in a local rock band. My first full-time job was as a Medical Scientist in the field of microbiology. I joined the pharmaceutical sector as a hospital representative responsible for medication for hepatitis C and I’ve been a sales manager now for about 8 years. Regardless of what I was doing however, I’ve always enjoyed working with people and motivating those around me to get excited and do things. I’m very happy with where I am now and what I do. Part of that satisfaction I’d have to say comes from the role’s versatility. It’s certainly not your average desk job. I spend as much time as possible out on the road with my representatives listening to customers and developing objectives.
Having been in the sector now for several years I was immediately impressed by Wyeth as a working environment. It has a very positive, friendly culture and exceptionally strong, supportive leadership that really permeates throughout the company. It really is a great place to work.
