Healthy women
Supporting women to live full and healthy lives has been a key focus of Wyeth since the earliest days of our company. Through its commitment to female health, Wyeth’s products are designed to provide support and choice for women at critical points in their life cycle.
Birth control and your right to choose
Wyeth has been providing choices about family planning and birth control since the early 60s when it was one of the first companies to manufacture the pill. Wyeth continues to offer a range of oral contraceptives to meet the individual needs of Australian women.
Managing menopause
For the last 60 years Wyeth has been committed to finding new and better ways to improve the quality of life for women during the menopause years. Our significant research and development investment in this area is aimed at finding new and better ways to support women to live beyond the constraints of hormone deficiency, and the concurrent risk of osteoporosis.
One of the best ways to manage menopause is to lead a healthy, active lifestyle. Your diet should include lots of fruits and vegetables and plenty of fibre. Regular exercise, both aerobic and muscle building, is both good for your heart and bones but also helps your body to manage sudden temperature changes. For some women, however, lifestyle changes are not enough to manage the effects of menopause.
Further research
Wyeth supports the important women’s health research being conducted at the Betty Byrne Henderson Centre at the Royal Brisbane Hospital, led by Professor Soo Keat Khoo. Wyeth has donated an unrestricted research grant to the Centre for studies in the improvement of quality of life for women in mid-to-later life through education, research and clinical services.
Supporting women through community partnerships
Wyeth Australia has entered into a partnership with the Australian Red Cross and the Glen Mervyn Young Women’s Health Program, which offers accommodation, support, leadership and education for young women under 18 who are pregnant of have a child, and are homeless or require intensive support.
At the heart of Glen Mervyn is a desire to help young, single mothers to help themselves and their families. Located in Randwick, NSW, the Glen Mervyn Centre was established in 1993 and provides young women and their children with easy access to health and welfare services. Moreover, Glen Mervyn is the only one of its kind in NSW, providing a unique 24-hour service that does not exclude clients with drug or mental health issues
Since it’s opening, the Glen Mervyn Young Women’s program has assisted more than 500 young women and their children.
Wyeth also has ongoing relationships with other women’s support organisations such as Osteoporosis Australia and the Australasian Menopause society.
